End of year favourites - Odonata

2018 was a very good year for dragonflies and damselflies.  The warm sunny summer suited them and gave good conditions for photographs.  These are male and female broad-bodied chasers.

These are male and female emperors.

A new species for me was white-faced darter.  This pair was at Foulshaw Moss in Cumbria.

And I got my first photo of a male golden-ringed dragonfly at Chatsworth in Derbyshire.

Closer to home I saw large red damselfly (♂),

blue-tailed damselfly,

common blue and azure damselfly (♂,♂),

and emerald damselfly (♂).

Three local darters were common,

ruddy (♂),

and black (♀).

Three local hawkers were common,

southern (♂),

and migrant (♀).

Let's hope next year is a good one too.
