Green hairstreak

I went on a walk with David Liddle and Coralie Niven of the Durham Wildlife Trust to see green hairstreak butterflies. David knew exactly where they were so we were not disappointed.  The green hairstreak is a tiny butterfly, smaller than my thumbnail, and has a beautiful iridescent green underwing.  It lives on bilberry and often perches on a nearby gorse bush to stake out a territory.  Here are a few photos.
