I glanced out of the kitchen window yesterday evening to see this bird stalking around below the feeders. I ran for the camera and managed just this one shot before she jumped up into the tree by the feeders. This is a female sparrowhawk, larger and more powerful than my regular juvenile male. Unlike the youngster she has grey colouring and a beautiful barred breast. She would be a threat to most birds in the garden, including pigeons and even the young sparrowhawk.
You'll notice in the photo she was dropping a feather. After she had gone I went out to retrieve it as a souvenir.
