Life is hard

I first noticed this fox in the garden three or four weeks ago and assumed it wouldn't be around for long.  It was hobbling on three legs, unable to put any weight on its right front leg which was held in a very abnormal position and appeared to be broken.  To my surprise it is still around and is coming for food, despite the fact that it has to climb or jump over the fence to get in.

Here you can see the severity of the injury.

I doubt if the fox has a great future but at least the peanuts are helping a bit.  It is never the first one here so even if I put out a bit of dog food one of the more dominant animals will get it first.

Foxes generally live only a year or two with many youngsters not making it through the first year.  Injuries may occur on the roads, while climbing through fences, etc and from fighting.

  1. That's a painful looking paw. So glad it's getting a helping hand from kind folk like yourself.
