Last dragon

The migrant hawker is the last dragonfly to appear and I saw my first of the year this morning.  This one is an immature male.  His colours will get brighter as he matures and his eyes will turn blue.  Migrant hawkers look small and dark as they fly and are on the wing from August to October - they are also known as autumn hawkers.

Although it is now a common breeding resident, the population is boosted by migrants from Europe each autumn.  Let's hope that continues after Brexit.
