Mrs Wasp

I posted some photos of a male common wasp (Vespula vulgaris) a few weeks ago.  This is a queen, still out and about foraging but soon to go into hibernation.  I haven't seen a male for a while but there are still a few workers about, making a nuisance of themselves and trying to get into the beehives as they now don't have much else to do.  Soon all the workers and males will be dead and the population will depend on the overwintering queens.
