High noon

These rather handsome flies are noon flies (Mesembrina meridiana).  Some of them (see photo 5) had a drop of water (or possibly nectar) in the mouth.  If you look closely you can see they have orange feet to match the colour on their wings and face.  I didn't have a macro lens with me - these photos were taken with a 300mm telephoto lens so aren't too bad considering.
