Bird of the week - Chaffinch

Fringilla coelebs which means bachelor finch - a name given to it by Linnaeus.  Apparently the female birds in Sweden are more likely to migrate south in winter leaving the males behind but there seem to be plenty of both in my garden. The second most numerous bird in Britain, it is easily taken for granted.  The males are beautifully coloured and the females much more subtle.
